About Us

Who are we?

Sydney Beyond Fencing Club was founded in 2022.

We have a clear vision to create a positive and open environment in which everyone, regardless of age, race or background, can experience the ancient and wonderful sport of fencing.

For that reason we do not aim to be narrowly focused on the 2032 Brisbane Olympics, but instead want to grow into a well-respected Australian fencing club in which fencers can achieve their personal growth goals in an atmosphere of great support and much fun.

The format of our club, and the design of the program, puts the fencers first: fencers’ safety, wellbeing and learning are our priorities.

Conveniently located in Artarmon, our club is 800 metres away from Artarmon train station, easily accessible by public transporation for fencers living in the CBD, Eastern Suburbs, North Shore and Western Suburbs.

We are willing to cooperate with other clubs, NSW Fencing Association and the broader community, to grow the sport together.

Policy

We try to keep our policy simple and clear. When parents and fencers sign up our program, they agree to follow our club policy.

1. Everyone in the club deserves respect. Parents are expected to model this behaviour.

2. There is zero tolerance for bullying. In the case of inappropriate behaviour such as constant disruption to the whole group during group lessons, the child will be counselled. Where there is no improvement in behaviour, parents will be contacted to explore solutions. If the issues remain after all reasonable efforts, we reserve the right to put the child in one-on-one sessions and any unused group session fee will be used for these one-on-one sessions.

3. Independent thinking is valued and fencers are encouraged to ask questions.

4. Fencers are expected to pack their own fencing bags and carry them by themselves. Parents, please do not step in unless there is a medical or other valid reason.

5. Safety is taken seriously. Every fencer will learn etiquette and safety at the beginning. We watch out for each other to keep everyone safe. Every member is expected to take care of club facility and equipment.

6. Locker rental service is provided to fencers who can independently put on their gear. Parents are not allowed to enter the locker room. All gear must be washed regularly to maintain the hygiene of the locker room.

7. Everyone is expected to maintain the club’s public image and reputation. If you are not satisfied with our service or have constructive suggestions, please talk to us.

8. Parents are encouraged to join our occasional adult class to experience fencing and volunteer at club activities if time allows.

9. Coaches are prohibited from accepting any form of gift or service from parents. The only exemption is something like a child’s hand-written card or hand-made token. Parents, please respect our culture of transparency, respect and equality.

10. During competitions, it is the coaches’ decision about the arrangement of the strip coaching. No parents are allowed to interfere. All competing members should wear club Tshirts and jackets at the competition or on the podium.

11. Fencers or guardians authorise the club to use their images on social media or hard copy prints to promote the club and we will make sure the image looks appropriate and positive. Photo or video of group lessons or private lessons is not allowed unless a written approval is given beforehand.

12. Fees are not refundable. For private lessons, every fencer has one opportunity to change the time every term for whatever reason. In this case, it is the fencer’s or guardian’s responsibility to contact the coach to arrange a time for the make-up private lesson. Make-up private lessons cannot be rescheduled. Make-up lesson must be scheduled before the next term starts and cannot be re-scheduled. There is no make-up group lesson if one is missed. There is no makeup group lessons offered.

13. We don’t sell your personal information to any third party. We endeavour to keep our data safe.

14. We retain the right to adjust the training schedule when needed without prior notice.

15. All official communications are by email ONLY.
